The conflict between touristic flows and commuters flows, that is to say those made by transfers for work or study purposes, has always been seen as one of the causes contributing to determine discomfort for the population and for the city’s economic activities.
One of the peculiarities of Venice is that of concentrating most of the arrivals in just one area, the one included between the train station, Piazzale Roma and Tronchetto.
In an average working day, more than 90.000 people enter Venice through the “narrow” arrivals’ area. There are arrivals justified by study reasons (11.8%), work (56.8%) tourism (12.2%), shopping (16.7%) and by behaviours showing the daily frequency of the transfer, which involves about the 60% of all flows.
