ALL IS READY FOR THE MUSEUM OF MESTRE
The conceptual part of the project MUME is starting, now that the real-estate phase is over

On the 20th of April the public call for offers organized by Provincia of Venice officially ended with the alienation of the 2.200 squared meters building situated in Via Pascoli in Mestre. The building has been sold to the Fondazione di Venezia, who paid it 5 million euros. The site has been destined as the site for the new Museum of Mestre(MUME). This acquisition is linked and chronologically following the purchase completed in February of the former military base in Via Poerio, a 6.000 squared meters area that brings the total area designated to host the museum of Mestre’s Twentieth century up to 8.000 squared meters. This project marks a turning point in the Fondazione di Venezia’s history, in fact the foundation is currently trying to move its efforts toward a more operative action than a merely bursary one, and directing its investments more on the in-land part of the city. The Fondazione has been working on the concept for the museum for a long time now, the project is still temporarily defined as “MUME project” but the intention is to make of it a conceptual and architectonic enterprise able to compete nationally and internationally with similar advanced cultural experiences. The project is very important both on the artistic and cultural level and also as a way to recover dismantled areas and to establish an new image for the city. The treasure chest of Mestre’s cultural history will be safeguarded by a society formed by Fondazione di Venezia, Municipality and Provincia.
