Some thirty films and videos, many of which brand new, five intense days of meetings and screenings (one more compared to last year), famous hosts (from Olympic canoe champion Josefa Idem to Italian writer Daniele Del Giudice), the best from all Venetian festivals, competitions and workshops (Raccontare Mestre, Video-competition Pasinetti, Mission Alphaville, Citying Zone, Il cinemino), trailers (the project Souvenir de Venise by the association “Venice is not sinking” by Giorgio Camuffo), international first releases (La notte dei foghi, the night of fires, about the Venetian feast of the Redeemer, a film that marks the debut of Kublai Film, a new production house): this is the excellent presentation of the second edition of the Venice Film Meeting, showcase of the “Venice producing films” in program at the Multiplex Astra at the Lido of Venice (room 2) from 5 to 9 September, to coincide with the Mostra del Cinema, promoted by Circuito Cinema Comunale and the Venice Film Commission, under the sponsorship of the Gruppo Triveneto and of the National Film Critics Union.

A growing space of visibility, witnessed by the enthusiasm and wide participation which accompanied the preparation of this second edition, even richer and more varied of the one before, “it is certainly able to document as a whole – observed Roberto Ellero, curator of the show and responsible for the municipal film activities – a many-sided artistic liveliness, with experiences going from the educational to the properly professional area, from the amateur to the militant dimension. We are not speaking of a lagoon Hollywood, we remain very realistic, but the thirty films screened at the cinema Astra display with enough self-assurance a lively landscape, confirming the potential of a sector in evolution”.
Between this year’s news there is the opening of the Venice Film Meeting also to the works of Venetian professionals working elsewhere or to works which, although produced elsewhere, pursue the aim of a coherently original view.
The opening of the Venice Film Meeting on Monday 5 September will see the screening of a documentary by the Venetian Gian Enrico Bianchi On the water’s flow, about the Olympic canoe champion Josefa Idem, who is going to be present at the screening, whilst the day after, Tuesday 6 September, it will be the turn of the RaiSat documentary Venetian Atlas by Francesco Conversano and Nene Grignaffini, where the city is seen and lived with the eyes of writer Daniele Del Giudice. Always speaking of documentary films, the genre most present in the Venetian productive landscape, it is important to underline the participation of Piero Fontana and Nandino Capovilla with a reportage from Palestine’s occupied territories No walls nor silences, the production by Mestiere Cinema Big Brother Aids, realized in Africa under Amref’s protection, the work by Ferdinando Vicentini Orgnani Peace routes, about the experience of cohabitation of Israeli and Palestinian boys in the Sant’Erasmo island, the film by Manuela Pellarin about the “Resistance girls” The true days, art documentaries Openasia
