![]() ![]() The requalification of the area of Santa Lucia
The new project from the regional pole to the new sailing centre
The date of 7 November 2006 could mark an important step for the urban regeneration of the city of Venice , especially respect to its function of political and administrative regional centre. During this day, the regional council committee approved the purchase of the former Fs (railways) palace of the former Magazzino complex, and the Venice City Council approved the resolution of the detailed plan for the station. Both initiatives aim to transform the area of the S. Lucia train station from place of crossing of flows to point of attraction and concentration of one part of these flows, through the creation of the Region’s citadel and of the sailing centre. Together with these two interventions there are those that plan a redefinition of the pedestrian routes between the S. Lucia area, the nearby university seats and Piazzale Roma, starting from the new itinerary of crossing of the Grand Canal, the Calatrava bridge, whose construction works have already started. These important urban requalification works for the city of Venice are part of the intervention strategies planned by the Grandi Stazioni society and by Rfi for the renovation of some important Italian railway junctions, like the station of Venice-Mestre.
