Gets to its Third edition the Report on cultural production in the Venice area worked out by Sistema on the basis of the data gathered by Agenda Venezia. The data analyzed to build the report are the ones gathered by the website www.agendavenezia.org, (a product of the Venice Foundation) which documents cultural events and initiatives promoted in the city and, starting from this edition, also in the main cultural centres of the province, through a census of all events that took place, underlining who the producers were and in which places they were held. The study measures the productive capacity in cultural terms of the city that takes from culture an important source of occupation and, at the same time, a means of development of the cultural role of Venice and of the province in the international landscape. In particular, during the year 2005 in the Venice area 1.922 cultural events took place, of which 1.674 in the municipality of Venice, organized by almost 120 bodies, associations and privates. In 2004 the events in the municipality of Venice had been 1838 (1.500 in 2003 and 1222 in 2002), the number of events has thus decreased in the capital on the lagoon, but this decrease is counterbalanced by a sharp increase of the average length of the events (and also of the days with events), which increased to 13.629 (13.153 in Venice) against 9.210 days with events in 2004. Most of the events (in particular exhibitions and meetings) is concentrated in the historical centre (66,9%), followed by the mainland (17,7%), the rest of the province (Riviera del Brenta, Cavallino and oriental Veneto — 13%), and from the Lido and the Islands (2,5%). The biggest organizers are the Venice city council (245 events), Circuito Cinema (163), Venetian Universities, the Ateneo Veneto, the foundations Biennale and La Fenice, whilst the places where the highest number of cultural events is held are the Centro Candiani (142 events), the Mondadori space (116), Ateneo Veneto (106) and the Auditorium Santa Margherita. The most important classification regards the suddivision of events between cultural, sport and general entertainment: in particular, conferences and meetings (557 events) cover the 34,2% of the total offer, music (367 events) covers 22,6%, film reviews (208 events) 12,8%, theatre and dance (273 events) 16,8%, visual Arts (222 events) 13,6%. As to the suddivision of events during the solar year, the distribution is quite fair, apart from a strong decline in the months of July (58 events) and August, (39) and a peak in November with 215 events. A further news in the third report regards the carrying out of a research done in the first months of 2006 on the 120 producers of cultural events to which participated the 40% of the interviewed (48 answers). Producers of cultural events are for the 63,8% organized as an association, 17% are institutions, 14,9% foundations and 4,3% societies, and are financiated for 33% from public institutions, 16% from privates, 19% self-financing, and the real cultural activity helps financing the contributors for 32% (13% comes from permanent activities and 19% from temporary events). An important data regards the number of people totally employed in 2005, which is around more than 3.000 units, of which 63,5% is a permanent employee. This data is a further confirmation of how important the cultural sector is in Venice, not just in terms of offer and stimulation of society, but also in terms of occupational and economical value.
